Googling is SO 2025: Getting Found in an AI-First World

Date: Tuesday, 2:30 PM - 3:45 PM
Your next client isn't Googling you, they're asking AI. When a prospect asks ChatGPT, Claude, or Google's AI Overview to recommend a firm for their project, one of two things happens: yours gets named, or it doesn't exist. This session breaks down Generative Engine Optimization: the new discipline of getting your firm surfaced and cited by AI answer engines, and why the marketers who move first will own an unfair advantage. You'll learn how these tools actually decide who to recommend, why traditional SEO only gets you halfway there, and exactly what to change on your website and beyond to become the answer. No theory, no jargon. A playbook you can start running Monday morning.
Learning Outcome
  • Explain how AI answer engines discover, evaluate, and cite firms and articulate why Generative Engine Optimization is a distinct discipline from traditional SEO, not just an extension of it.
  • Audit their own firm's current AI visibility by running the same queries clients use across ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, and Google's AI Overviews, and accurately assess whether their firm is being surfaced, cited, or missed entirely.
  • Apply specific content, structure, and authority tactics, extractable answer-first copy, structured data, and third-party citation signals to make their firm more likely to be named in AI-generated recommendations.
  • Build and launch a five-step GEO action plan they can begin executing the Monday after the conference, including how to control AI crawler access and measure visibility gains over time.

AI Won't Fix Execution

Date: Tuesday, 4:00 PM - 5:15 PM
Organizations are investing heavily in AI to improve productivity, efficiency, and business performance. Yet many of the barriers that slow results have little to do with technology. Communication breakdowns, unclear accountability, decision bottlenecks, and cross-functional misalignment continue to undermine execution—even in organizations with sophisticated tools.

In this interactive session, Heather Polivka explores why AI alone cannot solve execution challenges and how it often amplifies the strengths and weaknesses already present within teams. Drawing on neuroscience, organizational performance research, and real-world examples, participants will explore the uniquely human capabilities that drive performance in an AI-enabled workplace.

Attendees will leave with practical strategies for leveraging AI to strengthen communication, decision-making, adaptability, and execution while building the human capabilities that will create competitive advantage in the future.
Learning Outcomes
  • Explain why AI adoption alone does not improve organizational execution and performance.
  • Identify the human capabilities that become increasingly important in an AI-enabled workplace.
  • Recognize how AI can amplify both strengths and friction within teams and organizations.
  • Apply practical strategies for using AI to strengthen communication, decision-making, adaptability, and execution.

Vibe Coding: Build the Tools Your Firm Won't Buy You

Date: Wednesday, 9:15 AM - 10:00 AM
Marketing and business development professionals in A/E/C firms know the drill: you need a tool to track pursuits, automate a tedious workflow, or wrangle proposal content, but it's not in the budget and IT has bigger priorities. Vibe coding changes that math. Using AI tools like Claude and ChatGPT, anyone with zero programming background can describe what they need in plain English and build working applications themselves. In this session, Brad Thompson shares how he built a suite of custom tools at his firm without writing code the traditional way, what's actually possible for a non-developer, where the limits are, and how to get started this week. You'll leave with a clear picture of what vibe coding is, what it can do for your marketing and BD operation, and the confidence to build your first tool.
Learning Outcomes
  • Define vibe coding and understand how AI tools let non-developers build working applications.
  • Identify high-value marketing and business development workflows in your firm that are candidates for a self-built tool.
  • Apply a practical framework for scoping, building, and iterating on your first AI-built application.

He serves as Treasurer of SMPS Arizona and is a leading voice on practical AI adoption for A/E/C marketers.

Your Brand Guide Wasn't Built for AI

Date: Wednesday, 10:45 AM - 12:00 PM
Is your brand guide actually being followed by your team, or by AI? Most brand guidelines were built for print designers, not for large language models, proposal automation like Shred or Kantiv, or Claude Design. If a PDF can't be parsed by a machine, neither your people nor your AI tools will stay on-brand.

David Lecours, brand consultant exclusively for A/E/C firms, breaks down what a modern, machine-readable brand guide actually requires: what content to include, how to structure it, and the format decisions that separate a guide that gets used from one that gets ignored. Using real A/E/C firm brand guides as case studies, David will weigh the pros and cons of PDFs versus living, online brand guides.

You'll leave with a framework for auditing your own guide against what today's AI tools need to generate accurate, on-brand output from the start.
Learning Outcomes
  • Evaluate the pros and cons of PDF vs. online guides. They can then select a format to revise their band guidelines.
  • Identify what content to include in their brand guide. They can audit their current brand guide to determine holes to fill in a revised version.
  • Create a new, machine-readable brand guide. This will inspire humans and AI to generate accurate, on-brand output from the start.
  • Construct a plan for firm-wide adoption of your brand guide. This will help their firm stay on-brand.

Let's Build a Dashboard That Ignites Your Sales Engine

Date: Wednesday, 1:45 PM - 3:00 PM
Stop looking just in the rearview mirror. Let’s build a marketing dashboard that ignites your sales engine.

Every A/E/C firm tracks metrics like hit rates, but can you tell if your sales are actually growing? Metrics should help you make better business decisions. They tell the story of what actions to take. A marketing dashboard doesn't need a Formula 1 steering wheel with twenty-five buttons and a live telemetry feed to a pit crew. In this session we will build a simple six-gauge dashboard. using numbers most firms already in their CRM or ERP. We'll cover what each gauge actually tells you, variations of the gauge so you can set your own meaningful measurements, and discuss what can throw things off if you aren’t careful. We won’t just look in the rearview mirror, we’ll build some forward-looking forecasts and growth metrics to ignite your engines and GO!
Learning Outcomes
  • Identify six forward-looking marketing and business development metrics that provide a clearer view of pipeline health, growth potential, client relationships, sales effectiveness, and strategic focus.
  • Build a practical marketing dashboard using existing CRM and ERP data to support more informed business development and growth decisions.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of pursuit and sales activities by measuring return on effort, aligning resources with strategic opportunities, and tracking growth indicators beyond traditional hit rates.
  • Recognize common data quality issues and forecasting pitfalls that can distort performance metrics, and implement methods to improve the reliability of dashboard insights.
